You learn something new everyday! -Hide The Christmas Pickle-

Roman The Christmas Pickle Ornament

It’s true, that you learn something new everyday, whether you know it or not. Today, on facebook I seen a few people talking about, “The Christmas Pickle” and if everyone does this as a tradition, or not. I was clueless, with a few others on what, “The Christmas Pickle” was all about. It’s a pickle ornament, that you hide on the Christmas Tree. Whoever, finds it first gets a prize! I thought that was really cool, and would be fun to do! I’m sure this pickle would be hard to find!

The Christmas Pickle, has stirred up quite some controversy on it’s place of origin. It has been told many times, to be a German tradition. However, the Germans do not celebrate the coming of Saint Nick, the same time as the Americans. The traditional German belief, is you leave your boot, or shoe out on December 5th. When you awake on December 6th, there will be a goody in your shoe. Unless, you’ve been bad, which you will then receive a rod.

To play, “The Christmas Pickle” or “Hide the Pickle” you must first purchase a pickle ornament that you can find at most department stores, such as, Dillard’s, Macys, JcPenney, etc. Most of these will be made of glass so be careful!

On Christmas Eve, after the children are in bed sound asleep. Get the ornament, and hide it in the tree, and make sure you stand back to see if you can see it. If you can see it, then hide it in a better spot! *NOTE* Green trees work the best, because it’s hard to hide the pickle in a white tree.

When your child/children wake up, on Christmas morning, have them look for the pickle, somewhere in the decorated tree. The first one to find the pickle wins! The prize is usually something special like, an extra present, or cash!

You can find, “The Christmas Pickle Ornament” on Amazon for $7.99+ (S&H) by clicking here

Black Friday Ads for 2011 (Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, Kohl’s, Sears, Amazon & More!)

With Black Friday approaching in a few days I thought I would post some of the Black Friday ads of some of the stores I like. I don’t know if you set your alarm clocks for 4 am to go stand in line, or go to your favorite stores website and do plenty of clicking, or maybe you just decide not to mess with the headache at all. Either way here are some of the stores Black Friday ads, all you need to do is click on it and it will take you to their Black Friday deals.

By the way last year was the first time I had ever been Black Friday shopping and man was it CRAZY!!! I about died 15 times from being smothered by shoppers at Wal-Mart for just trying to get something located beside their legs in a box. You had to reach down low to grab what you needed and had to dig through so many things to get what you needed. People were already grabbing and throwing items to the side for them before the managers even told us to start! Some people were going off on the ones doing that. By the time I got to the item I REALLY WANTED there wasn’t any left. I would suggest you not to go to Wal-Mart for Black Friday because their so cheap when it comes to things!! Their so unorganized (well my store anyway). They didn’t have half of the items they advertised and after the sale I found out I could get the same items for the same price days later. I wasted all my time, sleep, and almost died for NOTHING!!! This year I’m moving on to bigger and better things like Best Buy! Besides I don’t care to save $2 on one item such as a freaking kids hoodie!! Smile I will let you know how my Black Friday trip goes and what store/stores I decide to go to!

Make sure you go to Black-Friday.net for all your latest Black Friday needs!! You can find just about every Black Friday ad for any store here. Another cool thing is that you can subscribe to receive updates on any *new* Black Friday ad that gets added.

Did you know that overseas military members can use expired coupons up to six months past their expiration date? Military families can get great use out of our expired coupons. Afterall, military families are usually only living on one income. Let’s give back to the ones who protect our family every day. Support one of these branches below!

Eligible Coupons:

  • Send only Manufacturer Coupons; Do NOT send store or restaurant coupons.
  • Coupons must be Clipped and Sorted into Food and Non-food (explained below).
  • Do NOT send coupons that are over 30 days expired.

How do I sort the coupons?

Separate your clipped coupons into two categories: Food and Non-Food
Most military bases have 2 stores. One is called the “Commissary” which is a grocery store and the other is the PX or BX which is a department store. We therefore ask you to sort the coupons into “food” and “non-food” bundles so that they can more easily be placed in the correct venue once they arrive at the base.

Label the Bundles
Try to use a baggie to separate your coupons instead of paper clips or rubber bands.

What’s Food & Non-Food?
Here’s the rule of thumb: It’s food if it can be eaten by humans, is usually eaten by humans, and is normally eaten to provide calories. For example, dog & cat food would be “Non-Food,” but Ensure or Slim-Fast would be “Food.” Vitamins would be non-food. Chewing Gum and Mints are food.

Is there a minimum donation?

No! Please send any coupons you may have. We only ask that you mail them only once a month. It will just be easier business this way!

May my family or community organization adopt our own base?

Yes! If you prefer to send your coupons directly to the overseas military base of your choice, you can read all the details on how to do this at OCPnet.org.

If you would like to donate your coupons to one our adopted bases, please send your coupons to our volunteer, Amanda Brumbaugh, currently heading up our donations! Amanda packages many boxes each month for shipment overseas and takes care of the customs forms so you don’t have to!
